"Barro Negro" or "Pottery of the Night" is a distinctive black clay used by potters throughout Oaxaca. Market stalls throughout the city are lined with beautiful pieces made from black clay.

Our workshop will be at Taller de Escultura y Cerámica Coatlicue in a neighborhood called Atzompa. Ana and her beautiful family will teach us hands on how to make pieces in the ancestral way and share the importance of black clay in Zapotec culture.

Their items are some of the best you'll find in Oaxaca and we always make it a point to purchase pottery from them to support their work. The pieces we have purchased from them have quickly become the favorites in our collection.

During this workshop, we'll have the opportunity to make our own copitas and create something together that has never existed before. They will cure and fire our pieces that we'll collect at the end of our trip.

We'll celebrate with one final Dixeebe from our mis-shapen copitas. We look forward to creating new memories with you and experiences that we'll carry with us for the rest of our lives.
